Give. Share. Change a life!

Birmingham-Southern's Young Alumni Council is passionate about giving back to the community!

Thank you again to everyone who participated in our 2020 Giving Tuesday project: funding a scholarship for a student who is the first in their family to attend a college or university. We’re happy to report that 2019's scholarship recipient, Zion Thomas, is over halfway through his first fall term at Birmingham-Southern.

Due to increased financial uncertainty as a result of the pandemic, many first-generation students across the country are reconsidering whether college is an option.

That's why we, the Young Alumni Council, have decided to renew our dedication to first-generation students in 2021. This year for #BSCGivingTuesday, we’ve launched a campaign to fund a second scholarship for a student who is the first in their immediate family to attend a college or university. This student will become a member of BSC’s Class of 2025. We hope that you will reflect on how BSC has impacted you personally and help us provide that impact to a first-generation student. Give back to BSC and your community by making a gift today!

Challenges and Matches:

President Emerita Linda Flaherty-Goldsmith will match the first $1,000 raised between November 23 -November 30. This means that when you make your gift early, your impact will be doubled! **CHALLENGE COMPLETE**

Double your donation match: The first $5,000 raised on December 1 will be matched thanks to the generosity of Guy and Pat Hubbs, Virginia Gilbert Loftin, and Jane P. McDonald! **CHALLENGE COMPLETE**

Young Alumni Council 100% Participation Challenge: The Young Alumni Council has committed to 100% participation on Giving Tuesday, pledging individually to make gifts of at least $20.25 because the recipient will become a member of BSC’s Class of 2025. This means that the they will give at least $1,012.50 ($20.25 x 50 members). When the Council reaches 100% participation, $1,000 in bonus funds will be “unlocked," courtesy of Thomas and Jennifer Waters, both Class of 1986. **CHALLENGE COMPLETE**

Corporate matches: Did you know that the power of your gift could be double or even tripled? More than 15,000 companies match charitable contributions made by employees, spouses, and even retirees. To see if your company has a matching gift program, use our search engine at www.bsc.edu/match or contact your employer's Human Resource Department.

#GivingTuesday gifts will fund:

This year’s Giving Tuesday goal is to fund a four-year scholarship for a student from the Class of 2026 who is the first in their immediate family to attend a college or university and who has demonstrated financial need.
